Mens Artistics Gymnastics (MAG)
Men's Artistic Gymnastics is the perfect sport to teach your son focus and self-discipline - skills that can assist with their learning and concentration.
Boys compete on six apparatus; floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar.
At Waiheke Gymnastics, we aim to provide an opportunity to all gymnasts to achieve their maximum potential.
MAG Junior Levels Programme 0-3
This programme allows for a more formal degree of gymnastics training and follows the GymSport New Zealand National Programme.
The National Programme is designed to:
Provide a systematic development pathway for young gymnasts;
Develop and promote participation at the basic level;
Provide enjoyable opportunities for as many boys,youths and adults as possible to participate and become competitive.
The introductory competition is Level's 0, 1 and 2, which provides 3 progressive levels and allows a gradual, no pressure introduction to gymnastics. The aim is to develop abilities based on the dominant movement patterns introduced at the Gymfun level to enable progression to the learning of the basic skills and ultimately routines. Expectations
As this is a competitive programme, the expectation is that gymnasts in this class enter introductory competitions in Auckland. Competitions are usually held in terms 2 and 3. Competitions are held on one day over a designated weekend. It usually takes 2-3 hours for a gymnast to compete at a competition and there are 5-8 competitions per year. The focus in term 1 is on skill development, and for term 4, badge work/displays.
Commitment to the programme and good behavior is expected at all times.Any one disrupting training on a regular basis will be moved to a recreation programme.
Other Costs
To enter competitions there is an additional charge (usually $25 -30) per competition.
Travel to Competitions
All gymnasts are responsible for their own transport to and from competitions in Auckland.The club will ensure their coach is at the competition.The best way is to organise with other members of your team to share the costs of taking a car over.
What to wear
For training gymnasts should wear shorts and a t-shirt or singlet.No zips on any gear is permitted. To compete, gymnasts wear the Waiheke Gymnastics shorts and top, which costs $50.00 and may be purchased from Sandy 372 7931.Some second hand sets are available. The club can help you to re sell your set when you have out grown it.
Tracksuits
Waiheke Gymnastics tracksuits will be given out at the begining of the competition seasons and are to be used only for competitions.A bond of $40.00 must be paid before recieving your Tracksuit.They must be returned in the same condition or your bond will be forfieted.
Please ensure gymnasts do not eat or play in thier tracksuits.Replacement cost is $130.00.
